Downsize your stuff
Before you start to pack all your belongings, donate any unwanted or unused items that are still in good condition. You’ll not only be lightening your load and saving money, but helping your community as well.
Make a checklist
Write down all of your moving tasks and when they need to be completed prior to your move. Check off each item on your list after it’s done so you don’t forget any important planning!
Change of address
Don’t forget to inform the Department of Motor Vehicles, Post Office and credit card companies of your new address.
Double check everything
When moving, make sure you double check any documents you have including an inventory list, insurance paperwork and contracts. Make sure everything is in order before you sign on the dotted line.
If you’re opting to pack everything yourself, make sure that you protect your belongings with the proper packing materials including packing paper, bubble wrap and sturdy boxes. If you’re unsure of how to pack a certain item, let North America Van Lines Corp take care of it for you!
Two weeks before the move, schedule to have your utilities shut off the day after your move-out day.
Before moving day arrives, be sure to arrange for child or pet care so you can focus on the move instead of worrying about your loved ones’ safety.
When packing your stuff, pack a separate and distinctive box with all the items you’ll need for your first night or two in your new home. This comes in handy especially if you’re moving long-distance and you’re waiting for your belongings to arrive.
Two weeks before your move, double check your moving date and time with the moving company. Ask any final follow-up questions you have of your moving company.
Make sure the truck won’t hinder other drivers, and if you need to block a road be sure to get permission in advance. If you’re moving to an apartment complex, inform them about the moving truck and find out if it is allowed on the property.
